Armored Collective provides chauffeured armored SUV rental in New York, operating B4 to B5 Chevrolet Suburbans and Cadillac Escalade ESVs with vetted security drivers across Manhattan and the tri-state area. New York is the one city where an armored SUV is genuinely unremarkable, because the streets are already full of black Suburbans carrying executives, diplomats and principals who would rather not be noticed.

The work concentrates around three things: the United Nations General Assembly, when the city fills with delegations and secure ground transport becomes genuinely scarce; board and investor meetings that require holding a vehicle across a day of moves rather than a single transfer; and residence to airport runs that live or die on tunnel and bridge timing.

Which New York airport to use

Teterboro (TEB) in New Jersey is the principal private aviation field for Manhattan and is typically twenty to forty minutes from Midtown depending entirely on the Lincoln Tunnel.

JFK is the largest commercial field and the furthest out. LaGuardia (LGA) is closer to Midtown but the approach roads are constrained. Newark (EWR) works well for the west side and downtown. Westchester County (HPN) suits anyone staying in Connecticut or northern Westchester far better than any city field.

Where we operate in New York

Midtown, the Upper East Side, the Upper West Side, Tribeca, SoHo, the Financial District, Chelsea and the West Village. Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO and Williamsburg are served. Greenwich and lower Fairfield County in Connecticut, Westchester, and the Hamptons in summer are all covered as longer movements.

What shapes a movement in New York

Manhattan movements are almost always quoted by the hour rather than point to point, because the value is in holding the vehicle rather than in the distance covered. A day of four meetings is one booking, not four.

The river crossings govern everything. The Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington Bridge and the Queens-Midtown Tunnel each have their own rhythm and a movement that ignores them is guessing. Teterboro looks close on a map and is not when the Lincoln backs up.

Manhattan operates a congestion charging scheme for vehicles entering the central business district below 60th Street. It is a cost rather than a delay, and it appears on your quote rather than as a surprise.

Winter storms close the bridges and the airports and there is no ground workaround when they do.

When New York gets busy

United Nations General Assembly week in September is the single tightest period in the city and across the whole of our coverage. Delegations book months ahead and the supply of vetted drivers and armored vehicles in the city is finite. Fashion weeks, the autumn banking calendar and the run-up to Christmas are the other pressure points.

What to ask any New York operator

For-hire passenger transport in New York City is licensed at city level, covering both the vehicle and the driver, and it is enforced. Ask any operator to confirm its licensing for New York City specifically rather than for the state or for New Jersey. Ask separately for the armoring certificate for the assigned unit.

Armored Suburbans and Escalades. Seven seats. Nothing else.

Armored Collective runs one vehicle platform type deliberately. The armored Chevrolet Suburban and the bulletproof Cadillac Escalade ESV are the most common large SUVs on American and Mexican roads, which means an armored one does not announce itself. Both hold their third row with armor fitted, so a principal, a security driver and a protection detail fit without splitting the party across vehicles. For multi-vehicle movements and motorcades we run matched units so the package looks like one fleet, not three rentals.

B4 or B5. How to choose.

Armor level is not a status ladder. Every level up adds weight, slows the vehicle, and wears the brakes and suspension faster. The correct answer is the lowest level that covers the threat you actually face.

Ballistic components in Armored Collective vehicles are rated to EN 1063 for transparent armor and to VPAM APR for opaque armor. EN 1063 is a component standard, not a vehicle standard: it classifies glazing, not finished cars. The only standard that certifies a complete assembled vehicle, including joints, overlaps and glazing interfaces, is VPAM BRV. Ask any provider which standard and which edition was used, which components were tested, and whether the certificate covers the specific unit or the fleet in general. We will send the certificate for the unit assigned to you.

B4 (EN 1063)

.44 Remington Magnum and lower handgun threats. The common civilian choice where carjacking or an opportunistic approach is the primary concern, and equivalent to what the Mexican market calls Nivel III, which accounts for the large majority of armored vehicles in the country.

B5 (EN 1063)

5.56 x 45mm NATO. Intermediate rifle threats. Note that EN 1063 does not include 7.62 x 39mm in its test series. If AK-pattern rifles are in your threat profile, ask for a VPAM VR6 certificate rather than a B5 rating.

We do not operate B6 or B7. B6 is tested against 7.62 x 51mm NATO and carries a real penalty in weight, acceleration and braking. If your risk assessment calls for that level, tell us and we will say so rather than sell you something that does not meet it.

FAQ

Teterboro (TEB) if you are arriving privately, since it is the closest field to Midtown. For commercial arrivals, LaGuardia is usually faster to Midtown than JFK.
